Duck Fat vol. 65
Maybe the most We Out Here™ we've been in years, folks!
I have nothing as insightful or useful to say as what’s covered in this incredible interview with the Sunrise Movement’s executive director full of actionable tips to bog down ICE, so as with last post (and every post in the foreseeable future), feel free to bounce if reading about second-hand clothing is not what you need today. PS so many good donation links & online resources circulating already - my favorites rn are rent assistance funds.
Welcome, my sweet duckies. Rough week. Month. Year. History of the United States. Think you can tell a lot about the kind of human I am by the fact that I dealt with my emotions by rewatching Chernobyl last month. Still hits!1 Alright, let’s keep it moving lest we look down and realize the road has run out beneath us. As a bonus, I finally pulled together a mini-resale recap for Japan!2
5 second-recs:

Welsh tapestry cape, S/M, $95:3 Deeply obsessed with welsh capes rn!!! Start with these, and then why not dive into a search of your own: brown/L/$133; blue/S-M/$99.99; blue-grey/M-L/$225; double-layer brown/L/$115.69; bright blue/M/$115.69; cool frog clasps (L/$115.69) or amazing wooden toggles & longer length (S-M/$92.53); love the blue & green on this S-M/$156.53; gorgeous teal & pink/S/$229; and love the waist-tie on this red one (S-M/$188). Or if you want something less…capelike, try this coat & skirt set (S-M/$105).
The Anteros Tien pullover, XXS, $48: Equally obsessed with The Anteros shirting - as is Katie Holmes, so I guess I’m in good company there. This is their Tien pullover for less than 20% of the original price in excellent condition. Love an exaggerated cuff!
Mouton fur coat, M, $121.26: If you were shivering in your (very nice, very chic!) wool coat during our recent APOCALYPTIC COLD SNAP, can I recommend searching “mouton” on ebay? Super dense & v. warm, plus a little less fussy than your typical fur coat imo.4 More options: longer M/L for $179; fun wooden buttons on this XL for $225; great cuffs for $180; incredible shawl collar on this short one for $85; hip-length S/M for $89.99 or great buttons on this S/M for $300; GORGEOUS but spenny longer M for $425; love the mink collar on this XL for $98; swingy L for $159.95.
Vintage hair comb, $33 : So we’re all about fun hair accessories now, right? Listen, even if I was living a life where spending $155 on a (very lovely) viral hair clip made sense for my budget, it’s sold out ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Luckily ebay’s got my back: love the moody blue here ($59.49); great Greek key motif on this amber one ($24.99); this sinuous curve would look gorgeous resting on someone’s updo ($22); fantastic black one for the perfect exclamation mark to any look ($26.61). Or go in a different direction and satisfy the beaded fringe craving Tory stirred up without buying Yet Another Bag: $10 grey beaded bow for all your Little Princess dreams; go full Dorothy with this red sequin one ($11.95); or maybe the vibe is more art deco and you want gold & silver with sharp angles instead ($24.99)?
Calvin Klein Collection calf hair purse, $160: I mean… Pair with these YSL dalmatian ponyhair loafers (IT37/$225) for maximum effect. OK, one more cute purse - a cream Coach tophandle for the ladylike among us ($99 & $127.45)!
3 unshoppables:
Take a break from humans and enjoy the 2025 Ocean Art Photography winners - and all the funny photo titles. Big fan of this theme.
Went to see The Bone Temple last weekend and honestly, it helped ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I am who I am.5 Also read The Remains of the Day recently and it felt pretty, uhhh, prescient as the kids say.6 Should I watch the movie next?7
So much good Valentine’s programming in the city rn!! What can I say, I am a huge sucker for cute-n-fun hearteyes shit. Perfume-making at the cloisters looks amazing, or you could see Save The Green Planet, i.e. the movie that gave Bugonia it’s juice, at the MoMA! And if you need to Touch Some Old Clothes™,8 why not riffle some racks at Styled by Poshmark, curated by the likes of Emilia Petrarca & Beverly Nguyen!! Oh, and if you’re free tomorrow night I’ll be hitting up Twisted Spine for their Scream With Me author talk & to watch Rosemary’s Baby with a bunch of other fun little freaques.
1 substack rec:
To be serious for one fucking second, reccing this read from Erin in the Morning on recent developments in gender-affirming care for youth. Then as the chaser, a little fresh squeezed Dyke Domesticity post on relationship archetypes just in time for Valentine’s - skip the astrology & ennaegramming and just declare yourself a Baby Serf!
1 DuckFit™:
These pants are a non-resale purchase from one of my favorite stores in Tokyo, Not Conventional.9 They’re decidedly not everyday wear as they are a bit delcate and also so swishy they look like a skirt,10 but I passed on a similar pair last visit for the sake of practicality and then spent the intervening three years yearning for them.11 So no rAgrets!12 Wore them for a Big Night™ a few weeks ago and as soon as I walked in the door someone said, “Those are, I am not lying, the coolest pants I’ve ever seen.” Intended affect achieved, baby!
*~Tokyo Resale Recap~*
Tokyo is so huge, wide-sprawling yet intimately dense, that I wouldn’t feel confident speaking with any imagined sense of ‘authority’ even if I’d lived there for years, never mind just been on two dinky trips! But I do really love vintage shopping, and if you’re reading this I assume you do as well. So I think it will still be ~*fun*~ to chat about it ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I’ve sorted my stops into three broad categories in hopes of helping lessen the overwhelm that comes with such an insanely rich variety of resale shopping. Definitely drop any opinions in the comments if you’ve been there or bookmarks you have if you’re planning a trip anytime soon!
Weekend Warrior: Taking a trip with friends who say they want to ‘get into thrifting’ but tell you never find anything? Go bop around Shimokitazawa for a few hours and watch the penny drop, baby! It’s gone viral 10X over for being a mecca of second-hand shopping but I promise you that if anything, social media is UNDERselling the sheer quantity of well-organized, freshly-laundered, perfectly curated resale shops here. You literally cannot take a breath without tripping on a sick & very wearable vintage LLBean ragg sweater they’ve probably got pinned to the winter inspo board this very minute. I ended up getting a sporty little alpine crewneck for ~$25 here, while my partner scored a fantastic 70s North Face puffer at this spot. Stop for an old school coffee & cake upstairs at Cafe Trois Chambres when you need to rest your feet, then grab some vintage records to take back home.13

Archival Vixen: For the girl who has a Vogue Runway account & can ID a Christian LaCroix opera coat at ten paces,14 there’s only one neighborhood that can live up to all your avant garde vintage dreams - get thee to the 'BUYA! I tried on so much CdG in the Shibuya Ragtag that I almost convinced myself $400 was within my budget for a cropped black jacket (it’s not).15 The feeling of that much gorgeous clothing is intoxicating, OK?! I also came close to grabbing a sporty Kenzo puffer at this adorable shop with a killer curation but talked myself out of it at the last seconds. So many rAgrets, so little time…

Rack Riffler: If you like the thrill of the hunt, you can skip allllll of the above - do not pass go, do not collect $200 - and head straight to a quieter, more residential neighborhood to check out the local 2nd Street or TreFacStyle locations!16 We lucked out when visiting my partner’s friend Hiro, who makes lovely custom leather wallets and does some interior design on the side.17 He understood my need to DIG after our Shimokitazawa trip and took us around Kameido. Spoiler alert: I cleaned UP. Also my partner scored funky red jeans for ~$1.75… If you DO happen to hit up Kameido specifically, I cannot recommend enough this tiny tachigui sushi bar hidden down an alley with a million other incredible dining spots - & make sure to get the BOMB!

Alright, congrats on making it to the end of this incredibly long post - you are most assuredly the people’s princess!! Come back next weekend for ROMANTICAL VALENTINE’S PROGRAMMING!
Did the same marathon viewing during DEEP quarantine & it just works. I might also sing “Fuck Me, Ray Bradbury” with Jared Harris’s name during the last episode (it fits if you squint). Whatever, I am who I am and he is a great actor. Shout out to any The Terror girleens on here, might be my next rewatch. What can I say, I love my men filled with existential despair & deeply haunted by their very human failings (& the Tuunbaq obvi).
Tim knows it’s better if you have to wait for it, right?
FYI many of these definitely have more size flexibility that what I’ve put next to the price, but there’s certainly limits to that sort of thing,so I used the size guides from listings to keep things simple for purposes of posting faster. Check measurements for your own comfort!
They’ll still need some refreshing & repair/care (vintage fur!), but it feels like less of a commitment imo than, say, a floor-length fox fur? This random fur store blog post google provided agrees!
SPOILER ALERT!!!!!!! Nothing more heartwarming that Ralph Fiennes tripping balls while dancing with a massive, naked man on the rolling hills of England. God bless.
They’re technically related! They both touch on England’s actions re, Germany btwn WWI & II - albeit from very different viewpoints (& prob with different conclusions tbh). So that’s the thematic connection for anyone doubting my chaotic numbering system!
As noted previously, the thrifter’s version of Touch Grass.
Where I got this sickass dress/vest/blazer (seen in these two DuckFits™) that gets 2+ compliments every time I wear it. She’s perfect & I love her forever!! The pants are from their “Remake” line, which is crafted by a former seamstress from Sacai who cuts up all this fantastic old clothing and jams it together in truly delightful ways.
Meaning that CPW started high (for me at least) and it’s gonna STAY that way, baby ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Some pieces are special!
Being reasonable is a CURSE!
…Some regrets. See resale recap for details [cough].
Also if anyone has any info on the “Port to Port” label in the collage, pls share!
If you’re in the chat, you saw my conversion rate L…she was so perfect…
We were in Kameido so I’ve linked those locations, but truly just pick somewhere that has limited/no social media appeal basically.
And so is basically made in a lab to seem intimidatingly cool to me, but luckily he is genuinely so kind and sweet! Also one of the best personal vintage collections I have seen in a non-seller maybe ever??

May cunty vintage fur coats heal us all
Ooofff I really need to get my butt to Tokyo. Thanks for sharing your recs.
