I had a lot of fun reading along your Tokyo trip! Can't wait to go someday but I suspect I will be similarly overwhelmed. I still rue the time I found a whole stack of reasonably priced buro fabric in an antique shop in Japan years ago, and I bought ONE piece because I couldn't decide what I wanted. I should have bought them all!
it is VERY overwhelming to me! and that’s with a cozy home base totally outside the city for relaxing days! This trip actually felt more my pace bcs we had a lot more “hanging out at home” days w. my partner’s family, and i just felt a looser “i’ll do whatever comes up” instead of planning so much. it’s how we found a special exhibit/show of hans wegner design which turned out to be a trip highlight, we just walked by a subway sign and said oh that’s close. Like if i’d still had a big list of stuff i NEEDED to do in each neighborhood, i don’t know if i’d have felt the flexibility to do that detour. way easier/better time when i let it go and just enjoy the time spent there. Will say it’s basically the only trip i really thought, “damn i should have bought MORE!” Such an atypical sentiment from me, but i learned my lesson after last time and made sure to get bigger special/fun pieces along with the practical stuff this time. SO sorry for the essay response, i have a lot to say about feeling overwhelmed traveling apparently haha.
I feel you! I took a long trip to Italy in 2024 and my friends thought it was weird that we spent 80% of it in one city (Bologna) but it felt good to thoroughly explore one place instead of spreading ourselves thin. And we still didn’t see it all, obviously.
Those trousers are disgusting, and by disgusting, I mean eerily similar to things I’ve been screenshotting, wishlisting, and delusionally telling myself I could DIY.
I support you watching the movie version of any book for science, but as someone who watched RotD last year, I have to say that the movie adaptations of Ishiguro are good (honestly the word I want to use is “fine”), but they just cannot come close to the atmosphere of the books for me. Just my opinion, of course!!
An opinion i value!!! yeah i am not rlly much for the sad butler variety of media, prob why i avoided the book so much despite loving NOMG since preteendom. LOOOVE a cheeky butler movie tho! so maybe ill watch goodies park or stg instead ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ the pants ARE amazing - there’s sliders on the waist to make it adjustable!!! prob for someone else to be like high or low waisted but my butt is getting in the way of too much variety there, BUT useful for me and my middle aged cranky stomach which wants way more space in the middle of the day lol
This is extra juicy. Love that you watched Chernobyl. I bet it was perfect for the moment. I love your swishy pants. I’m especially in love with the button down/matching tie top in chartreuse. I want it! (Not sure if I used the word “love” enough.)
Cannot emphasize enough how much watching it in a crazy couch marsthon during the snowstorm GENuinely helped me get out of the despair pit, which is a crazy thing to say about something so bleak - but it’s true!!!! i love the style/color of the chartreuse shirt but man is it cut for a different body shape than me, unfortunately. like it fits, but only technically 😂 but it’s such a wildly good combo of things i love i keep wearing it anyway
yes AND i was like nothing in the entire history of man is new, huh. somebody always cutting corners and hurting people to give themselves something. and there are always people willing to do things to help others. & individual and community action working in the face of so much horror, basically. and working at cost to themselves even when it barely makes a dent on any grand scale, but it’s the right thing to do so you just fucking do it. idk very helpful reminder for me!!
sorry for essay response! this show just legit helped me emotionally now TWICE when i have been in rough shape hahah. also i just love jared harris what can i say. HIGHEST OF RECS
I love this essay and you make so many good points. And I also love Jared Harris. Yes also in madmen but esp as the king in the crown. I avoided watching Chernobyl for so long bc it was a big deal when I was a kid and I’ve always been terrified of two things: bees and nuclear power. But it was so good I wanted more like it immediately after.
May cunty vintage fur coats heal us all
Just picture me as oprah giving away cars/bees!!
Ooofff I really need to get my butt to Tokyo. Thanks for sharing your recs.
ahh so happy to share! it’s kind of outside my standard posts so i was more nervous that part haha, ty for the kind words 💗

And Anthony Hopkins is so very sad in that movie. Adjustable waist sounds amazing and should honestly be standard issue? Butts notwithstanding 🤷♀️

Sometimes you watch something and you’re like “well things could be worse!”
